The Family Man, a spy thriller web series directed by the Krishna D K and Raj Nindimoru (who also directed Go Goa Gone, Stree and Shor in the City) is now streaming on Amazon Prime.

IMDb Rating: 8.8/10

It is a story of a family man, Shrikant Tiwari (Manoj Bajpayee) who works under Mumbai based Threat Analysis and Surveillance Cell (TASC) in the National Investigation Agency. The story revolves around the struggle Srikant faces to manage his family and his passion and work to serve the nation. Srikant is a hero at his workplace, but he fails to fill his duties as a father and husband most of the time.

The story is mainly based on real-life news that was under a conflict of discussion. At the end of each episode, the montage with a background score shows that collection of news. News like Kerala fled to Syria to join ISIS, Students arrested for alleged links to ISIS, Sleeper cells in Hyderabad, NIA special cell to monitor terror, India’s faceless agents, Underpaid spies, Terror groups posting on Facebook, College students booked for sedition and anti-nationalism, Ajmal Kasab Security and Medical bills, Two Muslim men attacked for transporting beef, the Phelu Khan story, and lynching was presented in a series of 10 episodes.

Krishna DK and Raj Nindimoru made a good necklace out of the beads of news. Along with them, cinematographers Azim and Nigam have done a great job through the selection of angles and aptly executed 360-degree shots. Many of the scenes are captured in one go which deserves applause. Also, the music by Sachin Jigar in the voice of Shreya Ghosal and MellowD is felicitous.

The star cast includes Manoj Bajpayee famous actress Priyamani, Sharib Hashmi, Sharad Kelkar, Neeraj Madhav, Gul Panag, Sundeep Kishan, Darshan Kumaar, Sunny Hinduja, Shreya Dhanwantry and other.

Manoj Bajpayee as Shrikant Tiwari

Location: Srinagar, J&K

Manoj Bajpayee for the role of Shrikant was a perfect choice. He pulled off his character with simplicity and he did complete justice to the role of a husband, father, and employee which is relatable to the actual life of a spy. What surprises us the most is that his role brings humor to the serious spy thriller and makes it engaging.

On the other hand, JK (Sharib Hashmi) as a friend complements Manoj pretty well.

Shrikant’s wife Suchi (Priyamani) is a character from every second Urban household in India, who is a working mother of two kids. She manages her family expenses even after having underpaid jobs. Priyamani skillfully portrayed her role.

Neeraj Madhavan, in the role of Moosa Rahman ,a chemical engineer who went to Syria to join ISIS, did a great job.

The dialogues that went viral and stole many hearts are “Talwar ko katne ke life, agar Talwar utnoge toh aant mein bas Talwar hi bachegi” and “Privacy is a myth like democracy” presented by Shrikant Tiwari.

In every episode, you will have a journey of various emotions from feeling pity for the family conditions of Srikant, to feeling proud to see his dedication towards his job, to anger where Pakistan always remains the number one enemy to attack India.

Apart from this, the story could have avoided the extra secularism and justification of the actions of the terrorist in recent times. They showed that people get involved in the act of terrorism due to mishaps in their families. Also, they could avoid the justification of the act of sedition to some extent.

Overall, it is good watch. It is quite entertaining, bucolic, and engrossing. It will take you to the voyage of the problems arising in India from the past four years. But, don’t form an opinion about the issues in India according to the web series.
