This Oscar winning movie is about an innocent man who represents how the world should be: he's loyal, humble, honest, he would never cheat or lie. He does everything with a good heart and ends up being the best in whichever tasks he undertakes - may it be in being a good son, good confidante, honest army man, wonderful ping-pong player or a crazy runner. The movie describes that life isn't as bad as most people make it seem. That an innocent man can impact so many lives with his innocence. Movie educates its users about everyone to have a better outlook in life which should be filled with positivity. That we need to appreciate more of the little things around and not let the big things hold us back. That truly although life may throw us trials and tribulations, like a box of chocolates , we have to just bite into it and get through it even if we don't like it. That we all need to hold true to our values and not sink into a place that feels like there's no hope. Tom Hanks won an Oscar for the best Actor - Male for his stellar performance.
The movie's line, "Mama always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." was voted as the #40 movie quote by the American Film Institute (out of 100).
Tom Hanks was not paid for this film. Instead, he took percentage points which ultimately netted him in the region of forty million dollars.
The line, "My name is Forrest Gump. People call me Forrest Gump," was ad libbed by Tom Hanks while filming the scene, and director Robert Zemeckis liked it so much that he decided to keep it in.
When Forrest first learns to play ping-pong in the infirmary, he is told the trick is to "keep his eye on the ball" by another soldier. After that moment, whenever he is shown playing ping-pong, he never blinks.
Tom Hanks signed onto this film after an hour and a half of reading the script, but agreed to take the role only on the condition that the film was historically accurate.
Bill Murray, John Travolta, and Chevy Chase turned down the role of Forrest Gump. Travolta later admitted that passing on the role was a mistake.
During the ping-pong matches, there was no ball; it was entirely CGI, animated to meet the actors' paddles.
